Swimming For Babies - Great Tips For You & Your Baby
Swimming can be one of the greatest joys and gifts to a young child. From a babies earliest days, BATH TIME can provide you with a great chance of enjoyable time with your baby in the water.
Where Do You Start?
If you can stand the mess, SLASHING, KICKING, HAIR WETTING & FLOATING are great for your babies confidence and best of all they are playful and fun.
NEXT…….As they grow try encouraging your child to do the following,
REACH into the water to grab a toy,
BLOW bubbles, they will love this.
KEEP EYE CONTACT with your child, this will make them feel safe
PLEASE always check the temperature of the water is comfortable for your baby and never leave them unattended.
These games are all leading to the most important thing a child can learn at this stage, CONFIDENCE. Without confidence your child will never really enjoy the water and going swimming.

Taking Your Baby To The Swimming Pool
There is a suggested age of 6+ months of age from which you can take your baby to a swimming pool. PLEASE NOTE that as soon as your baby starts to shiver get them out and rap them up warm.
Try making your first visit really enjoyable, they will want to come again and again after this
Use what your have taught them in the bath, yes more SLASHING, KICKING, FLOATING etc…. It will all pay off, I promise, and you’ve guest it, with more confidence. Please remember there is no right or wrong here; just encourage a good time and loads of FUN
Show by example, BE your babies teacher. KICK your legs, PULL your arms
Try supporting your baby under there armpits, face clear of the water. They will then feel safe and happy to slash around
But I can’t swim, I hear you say. IT’S NOT ESSENTIAL. Stay where you feel happy, in shallow water. Many swimming pools have steps into their small pools, sit here and play with your baby. Maybe this is a good opportunity for you to learn to swim. You can pass on your new skills and will feel more confident with your baby.
And finally, as a parent make the trip to the pool enjoyable
If you can put up with the screams and crying, try leaving the water with a baby who still wants to be there. This will mean they will definitely want to come back.
