Swimming Information

So to make sure you get the best of your new or existing pool, bheck out these easy to follow tips, which will have you enjoying your pool in no time.

Just before we begin lets just explain the two different types of pool which are available to buy. This will help you understand what we are on about later on. So what are they…….

Above Ground Pools & Below Ground Pools

These are best explained in a simple table, you can refer back to this table as you move through this section, they may help you make certain choices.

Above Ground Pools (Sit above the ground)

Above ground pool

Below Ground pools (sit in the ground)

Below ground pool

Advantages

  • They can be dismantled and taken with you if you move,
  • They are cheaper then below ground pools,
  • You can install decorative decking around the edges.

Advantages

  • They can increase the value of your home,
  • More permanent than above ground pools,
  • They can be much bigger than above ground pools and can be built in many shapes.

Disadvantages

  • They are no good for swimming lengths, they are more of a leisure pool,
  • They only come in round or oval shapes.

Disadvantages

  • More expensive to build and maintain than an above ground pool.

Tip If you are looking to build a Below Ground Pool please read the following
  • Shop around for companies,
  • Make sure the quote you get includes ALL the work you require,
  • Get at least 3 quotes,
  • Ask for a list of previous customers and contact them.

Now that’s done lets begin……..

WHAT DO I NEED TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE BUYING A POOL?

maintenance1) Maintenance

BORING I hear you say. I know, but bear with me. If you can bear it, you need to ask yourself this one question before jumping in (pardon the pun),

“How easy is this pool going to be to look after?”

Basically you will love owning your pool more if you don't have to spend hours cleaning and preparing it.

Tip Don’t get talked into a larger pool than you require. Ask the contractor – How much time and money is it going to takes to maintain per month, including all chemicals needed and electricity etc….
Tip DO SOME RESEARCH – it’s a safe bet that’s why you are here now, good. NEXT you need to find out, not just about the pool, but also, about pumps, filters, tools, chemicals etc…..keep reading, there is plenty of help here on these pages, or you could always Google it.

REMEMBER - Get more that one quote and compare.

2) Do I like to dive in?

Now we are talking FUN, much more like it. Now ask yourself,

  • Do I want a pool deep enough to dive in?
  • Do I want to do the BOMB?
  • Or do I want a shallow pool just to bathe in?

TIP: Above ground pools don’t normally have diving boards, as most boards are not tall enough, maybe a Below ground pool would suit you better

Remember Safety in your pool is your number one concert at all time.

3) The shape

Square, Rectangular, Ovals & kidney shaped are all possible for Below ground pools. Above ground pools are only available in round or oval.

4) The Size

Try to think how big you really need the pool to be. In larger pools you can do more, but they will cost more to build and maintain.

Tip Below ground pools can be built much larger than Above ground Pools
