Women’s Swimming - Loads Of Great Tips

For most women the thought of getting into their swim wear and walking out to the pool is very daunting, especially if they are conscious of their figure.

Here we will give you loads of great tips to help you gain the confidence you need to get back in the pool, and some good reasons why this is beneficial.

Women SwimmingTogether we will look at the following;

Women Only Swimming Sessions

These sessions are open only to women and their young children (boys often up to the age of 8).

Why are they good?

  • They are a great idea for women who feel more comfortable in a single sex swimming session. Even the lifeguard will be female.
  • For religious reasons some women can only swim in single sex swimming sessions.

How do I find out about these sessions?

Use our COUNCIL LIST, choose your local council, search under sports and leisure and look for information there. If there is no obvious information use the contact detail on these websites and give your local swimming pool a ring.

TIP Often universities open up there swimming pools to the public and a number of these provide women only swimming times.

Water (Aqua) Aerobics

Water aerobics it not just for women, but from experience nearly all participants are female. This is great as it encourages women to return week in week out for this fab exercise.

Wtaer Aerobics

  • Water aerobics is a low impact activity. This means exercise with very little stress on your joints, for example, knees, hips and ankles. It is also good for pregnant women.
  • Its requires a small amount of swimming ability as most takes place in waist high water.
  • The techniques come from studio aerobics, so you may already know a move or two.
  • Examples of exercises are, walking, running, jumping jacks and various arm movements.

OK, it’s a great exercise, where is my nearest class?

  • Most council run swimming pools will hold a class. Use our COUNCIL LIST to search for where and when.
  • If you are part of a health club which has a pool, ask the instructors for details. If they don’t do a class, ask for one to be started, or move clubs.

Great Advise For Swimming While pregnant

Can I swim while I am pregnant?

YES, and for a number of very good reasons.

  • Research indicates that pregnant women benefit loads from going swimming.
  • It makes your stomach muscles strong, which is essential while carrying your baby.
  • It also strengthens the back muscles, again essential for carrying the extra weight.
  • Swimming reduces joint stiffness and high blood pressure associated with pregnancy.

(Please always check with your doctor before doing any activities whilst pregnant).

Congratulations you have had your baby, but you still want to go swimming and you would like to take your new arrival with you.
  • Well if you can wait around 6 months you can take your baby to a Mother (parent) and baby class.
  • For tips on what to do with your baby in the water before this time see our SWIMMING FOR BABIES section.
